Abode2 shares the first look inside Waterline Square's completed skate park — the first space of its kind in a residential development in New York City
Abode2 unveils the first photos of the skate park and new details on the space's never-before-seen custom mural, and talks to the local artist, Valentino Mikalef, who created the concept for the mural.
Located within the Waterline Club, Waterline Square's 100,000-square-foot amenity center designed by Rockwell Group, the skate park features a half-pipe and mini ramp, open seating areas for socializing, and a dynamic custom mural. Commissioned by developer GID, artist and native New Yorker Valentino Mikalef of MAC (Mural Art & Consulting) designed a mural to capture the spirit of New York and create an authentic skate experience. Using his background as a graffiti artist, Mikalef crafted a playful, colorful narrative that situates iconic NYC elements — including a hot dog stand, checkered cab, and coffee cup — in a surrealist lens.
The skate park has become a fan-favorite spot for Waterline Square residents, even attracting a group of teenagers who skate together multiple times a week.
Artist, Valentino Mikalef explains: "With roots in NYC, we jumped at the chance to collaborate with Waterline Square on the Upper West Side. Our art helped transform the space into a NYC experience we could only dream of having grown up in the Big Apple. Through a surrealistic lens we expose some of the city’s cherished landscapes and icons that are truly New York. Skaters now have the opportunity to ride with an authentic street art piece serving as an engaging backdrop. Extra mustard on that Hot-Dog."
