EXPERT GUIDANCE ON SELF-INVESTED PENSIONS FROM SIPPCLUB

When looking at investing into a pension fund, it can be daunting to hand over your hard-earned nest-egg and no longer have the control.

“Many of our clients invest in property, inside and outside of their pensions,” says Brian. “Quite a number are property developers who specialise in converting commercial property into residential accommodation.

“The problem is that if you hold residential property in a SIPP or a SSAS, the fines imposed by HMRC can wipe out a large part of your pension fund. Detailed guidance is needed to ensure you don’t fall foul of pension legislation.”

The second area where assistance was required was finding the right SIPP or SSAS provider to help you put your plans into practice, as this can be very time consuming and costly.

“It’s possible for virtually every SIPP and SSAS to allow investment in commercial property. But many providers don’t have detailed property knowledge and as a result, refuse to let their clients invest in this area,” tells Brian.

“Other providers simply want to limit their pension schemes to stockmarket assets only. Finding pension providers with the right skill set to accurately match your needs is not only tricky, the costs can also vary wildly between one provider and another.
