EXPERT GUIDANCE ON SELF-INVESTED PENSIONS FROM SIPPCLUB

30.05.18

When looking at investing into a pension fund, it can be daunting to hand over your hard-earned nest-egg and no longer have the control.

SIPPclub knows all too well that people like to have a firm hand on their money, and have been helping affluent people make informed decisions about their pension funds using both kinds of self-invested pensions: SIPP and SSAS.

A SIPP is a Self-Invested Personal Pension, designed for individuals, while a SSAS is a Small Self-Administered Scheme, suitable for businesses, where up to 11 people can pool their funds into one pension scheme, perhaps to buy more valuable assets like commercial property.

Founded in 2012 by Brian Bennis, a financial adviser with pension expertise stretching back to 1981, SIPPclub offer their clients expert insights and guidance for staying in control of their finances and funds for their golden years.

“With the rise in popularity of the internet, many of the wealthier clients of our independent financial advisory practice were preferring to make investment decisions without the need for us to give the full and detailed financial advice,” explains Brian. “After all, no-one wants to pay a fee to be told what do to with their money, if they already know what they want to do with it.”

However, while many of these investors were happy to take the reins when it came to their investment decisions, there was a need for help across two areas. The first is help with the technical questions.

“Many of our clients invest in property, inside and outside of their pensions,” says Brian. “Quite a number are property developers who specialise in converting commercial property into residential accommodation.

“The problem is that if you hold residential property in a SIPP or a SSAS, the fines imposed by HMRC can wipe out a large part of your pension fund. Detailed guidance is needed to ensure you don’t fall foul of pension legislation.”

The second area where assistance was required was finding the right SIPP or SSAS provider to help you put your plans into practice, as this can be very time consuming and costly.

“It’s possible for virtually every SIPP and SSAS to allow investment in commercial property. But many providers don’t have detailed property knowledge and as a result, refuse to let their clients invest in this area,” tells Brian.

“Other providers simply want to limit their pension schemes to stockmarket assets only. Finding pension providers with the right skill set to accurately match your needs is not only tricky, the costs can also vary wildly between one provider and another. SIPPclub was created to solve both problems.”

Individuals can join SIPPclub without charge, and members can contact the team as much as necessary, asking us any detailed questions relating to self-invested pensions.

“Our role is simple. We make it our business to fully understand what you’re trying to achieve. If we think it’s possible, we’ll point you in the direction of appropriate providers of products and services so you can put your plans into action,” Brian explains. “The reason we don’t charge you is that we’re paid for making introductions to relevant firms. Obviously, if we don’t get to grips with your requirements, you won’t end up doing business with those firms, and we won’t be paid.

“It ensures we have a vested interest in helping you get exactly what you want, at the right price, when the time is right for you. Our mission is to help improve your knowledge, maximise the value of your investments and ultimately have you regard SIPPclub as a trusted financial friend.”
