Pacific Palisades has become a hub of celebrity homes. It is home to a huge population of film industry, sports and music stars including Kate Hudson, Steven Spielberg, Billy Crystal and Chevy Chase among many others. Yet, Matt Damon has placed his Pacific Palisades home on the market for $21 million.
He and his wife, Luciana, purchased the house in 2012 for $15 million. Damon moved his family to the Los Angele’s neighbourhood alongside long-time friend, co-star and writing partner, Ben Affleck and his family – both moving onto the same street. The pair have lived close to one another since they met during their school days.
However, with this new move it would appear that Affleck will be staying in the Pacific Palisades area whilst the Damon family move to their six-bedroom penthouse at the Standish in Brooklyn Heights, New York. The family bought the penthouse back in 2018 for a record-breaking $16.745 million.
The Damons have lived in a number of luxurious homes, including a stunning Spanish-style Miami Beach home which they sold when they moved to California. The family have become accustomed to living in tropical climates, surrounding their homes with lush year-round designed landscaping, and living an equal indoor-outdoor lifestyle all year round.
Their current property has a private gated entrance that opens up to reveal the contemporary 13,508 square foot home. The interior of the house focuses around a central atrium, with 35 feet high mahogany ceiling and an abundance of natural light pouring in through clerestory windows, that leads into the open plan living room. The sense of a spacious, airy flow continues through the California-style formal rooms with movable glass. This allows the threshold between the living and landscape to vanish and gives the owner the indoor-outdoor lifestyle the Damons love.
The houses chef’s kitchen mirrors the central atrium, and the theme of the house, with use of mahogany and features bluestone countertops. The master suite, one of the seven bedrooms, has its own private terrace, dual dressing rooms, a bath and massage room. Among the ten bathrooms, the house also features a game room, a bar office, staff quarters, a media room and wine storage with a tasting room.
With outside living as key as the interior of the home, the gardens and land around the home is kept just as luxurious. The property features a pool and spa with a waterfall and Koi pond for the owner to relax in their surroundings. There is also a Hawaiian-style covered lanai to be used for outside dinning or to sit and enjoy the outside space and tropical plantings. With a built-in children’s play area, the home is designed for the whole family to enjoy outside living.
