Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts has bought a Victorian Revival-style house in the Presidio Heights neighbourhood of San Francisco for $8.3 million, property records show.
The five-floor house, designed in 1907-’08 by Sylvain Schnaittacher, has approximately 6,245 square feet of living space, including five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. It features a partial slate roof, a north-facing garden, a two-car garage and a 1,000-bottle wine room, according to the listing with Sotheby’s International Realty.
The property was listed for $10.25 million in May 2019, and the price was dropped to $9.65 million in September, listing records show.
Roberts, 52, closed the deal via a trust, according to the deed filed in January. She previously used the same trust to make real estate transactions across the country, including a Hawaii beachfront home selling for $16.2 million in 2016.
The seller was Brodie Cobb, a competitive cyclist and founder of the financial services firm The Presidio Group. He purchased the home for $1.88 million in 1997, property records show.
Remodeled by interior designer John Wheatman, the house’s main level has a large entry foyer with leaded windows, a living room, a formal dining room and a family room featuring fireplaces and coffered ceilings, a gourmet kitchen with a breakfast room and a wet bar.
There are four bedrooms and two baths on the second floor. Occupying the third floor is the master bedroom suite, which has a balcony and skylight with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay, according to the listing.
The lower two levels include a screening room, a mud room with wall-to-wall closets, a laundry room, a two-car garage, a 1,000-bottle wine room and a built-in dog bath. There is also a rear patio and garden, according to the listing.
