Plans have been submitted for the transformation of an important brownfield site right on the river in Battersea.
Property developer Rockwell and architecture studio Farrells are proposing to build 142 new homes at One Battersea Bridge, currently home to the Glassmill, one of the oldest buildings in the Ransomes Dock area.
The firms assert the existing building is “no longer fit for purpose in modern London”, describing it as “highly energy inefficient and struggling for commercial viability”.
Designs show a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bed units, with up to 18 “large family homes”. The proposals provide for 35% affordable housing – including 70% designated for social rent.
The scheme includes 5,000 square feet of new flexible office floorspace – designed for local SMEs and startup businesses – along with a new community hub and waterfront plaza that promises to “radically improve” the area for locals and bring in new visitors.
Wandsworth – is unquestionably in need of more homes. One Battersea Bridge will ably regenerate an underutilised site and enable the creation of new housing for the borough. However, our vision is to deliver a multi-use area which delivers more than just homes.
A long-overdue revitalisation of the public realm along this section of the Thames and brand-new community space will benefit existing residents as well asfutureproof this area for generations to come.
