Meryl Streep's home relisted with a new price and a fresh look

A Winning Streep

16.09.19

The Tribeca home of Hollywood royalty and Mamma Mia star, Meryl Streep, has been relisted with a new price and a fresh look.

The extraordinary property, which boasts unobstructed views of the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty, the Freedom Tower and the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings has been reduced from $24.6 million, when it first went on sale this time last year, to $18.25 million. The famed River Lofts development, in the hip Tribeca district of New York, was a former warehouse converted into only 38 units in 2003, all of them are bright and airy loft-like places to live which also afford the owners their privacy. Streep’s unit, is the top floor penthouse and in addition to its prime location and spectacular views of the New York skyline, the 4,000-square-foot full floor unit has its own private elevator entrance that opens to an open plan arrangement and a ten-foot wide outdoor terrace which has been already outfitted with mature plants and trees. The luxurious four-bed, five-bath unit also features a media room, home office and a large kitchen and living room. Prospective buyers can marvel at the floor-to-celling windows, (the windows throughout the property, are triple-glazed so they keep out the noise and make it easier to maintain a comfortable temperature during New York's extreme cold and heat) two master suite walk-in wardrobes and a terrace on three sides. Tech touches complete the property, including Lutron lighting, electronic shades, and a central sound system. Purchased by the actor for a cool $8.95 million in 2004 and with a projected price of $18.25, Meryl could be on a winning Streep.

The English country house that was the long-time home of the late pop star George Michael has sold. The 16th-century spread, in the village of Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, changed hands for £3.4 million on July 31, according to records with the Land Registry, England’s property record database. Mill Cottage, as it’s known, was sold by Michael’s charitable trust, which names his sister as one of three trustees. The buyersare reportedly local to the area. The Wham! frontman, who died in 2016 at the age of 53 in the home, had owned the riverside cottage since 1999, when he paid £1.45 million for it, listing records show. Last month’s transaction appears to have been an off-market deal, with no public listing information available. But a glimpse inside the home was given in 2004, when Michael gave a tour on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show. "It's not exactly spacious, but it's my idea of a beautiful house," he said in the segment. "Of course, it has really low ceilings because people were so short in those days. This is about as English and as historic as you can get." When showing viewers the library, he noted how it wasn’t there when he bought the house, “but I think every house should have a library," he said. “I'd love to tell you that all the books in this library were Shakespeare or Wordsworth, but most of them are just antique books that we bought in bulk. But I think they're just beautiful, so they're kind of furniture rather than cultural input."Across thepond in California, a mid-century modern style hexagonal home that belonged to Michael in the 1980s is currently on the market with an asking price of US$5.9 million.
