Former boxing star Sugar Ray Leonard has just jumped into the real estate ring, listing his long time Los Angeles mansion for the knockout price of $51.9 million.
The sprawling Italian-style villa in the celebrity-laden Pacific Palisades neighbourhood was built by Mr. Leonard and his wife, Bernadette, 22 years ago, according to a news release from listing brokerage Coldwell Banker Global Luxury.
Set behind double gates, the ivy-covered mansion spans more than 16,700 square feet and has fireplaces imported from Europe and stone floors imported from Jerusalem.
There is also a solarium, vaulted ceilings, a gym, a media room and seven bedrooms including a master suite with a private terrace offering ocean and canyon views, according to the listing with Coldwell Banker’s Jade Mills.
"This home has been a peaceful oasis," Mrs. Leonard said in the news release. "We've been blessed to have a space allowing us to host both intimate family gatherings and sizable fundraisers. My hope is that the future owner will cherish this home as much as our family has."
The lot sold to Mr. Leonard, 63, in 1993, according to records on PropertyShark, which did not detail how much he paid.
Elsewhere on the almost two acres of land is a motor court, landscaped gardens, a pool, a spa, a tennis court and a putting green.
A separate two-story guest house is found adjacent to the pool.
"This estate is truly an exquisite property exuding European charm," Ms. Mills said in the release. The home’s craftsmanship, quality and scale creates “an exquisite experience like none other,” she added.
Mr. Leonard competed from 1977 to 1997 and won world titles in five weight divisions.
