When looking to the future, it’s important to look to the past to preserve a heritage legacy.
This is the ethos behind the landmark development that is Costa Navarino, a project which has introduced resorts, residential communities and top-class amenities on one of the most unspoiled seaside landscapes without overpowering the natural surroundings.
Located in the Greek region of Messinia, in the southwest Peloponnese, it is one of the biggest tourism and real estate developments in the Mediterranean. Comprising five distinct sites, with a total land area more than 1,000 hectares, Costa Navarino contains 5-star deluxe hotels, conference facilities, spa and thalassotherapy centres, activities for adults and children and a prestigious portfolio of luxury residences.
The project was the dream of ardent environmentalist Captain Vassilis C. Constantakopoulos, who wanted to share the love of his homeland with others, while preserving its natural environment.
His vision for Costa Navarino involved a bold and forward-looking community of high-end sustainable accommodation and facilities, that would allow guests from all over the world to explore the natural beauty, history and traditions of his native Messinia, while at the same time creating jobs that would enable Messinians to stay in their homeland and even return.
Now, developers TEMES S.A – established by the Constantakopoulos family – have taken the vision of their forefather and run with it, creating one of the largest tourism investments in the Mediterranean. Today, Costa Navarino is renowned as a world-class, high-end destination in its own right.
Navarino Dunes, the first world-class mixed-use resort - which measures an impressive 130 hectares - stretches along a 1.5km-long, sunset-facing sandy beach. Opened in 2010, it is home to two luxury five-star resorts; The Romanos, a Luxury Collection resort and The Westin resort, with a 4,000 square metre Anazoe Spa.
The Dunes resort also plays host to Greece’s first signature golf course The Dunes Course, as well as a versatile conference centre, two specially designed centres for children, many sports, leisure and entertainment zones and a stunning variety of exclusive dining venues and the luxury residential community, Navarino Residences.
The second site Navarino Bay, slightly larger than Navarino Dunes, is already home to the signature Bay Course with much more to come. Development shows no sign of slowing down, but Costa Navarino has nature at its heart, with 10% of the first development phase’s total budget dedicated to environmental practices.
The building footprint is less than 10% of the total land area and Costa Navarino as a whole, was named ‘Most Sustainable Destination’ globally by the World Travel & Tourism Council in 2014. Combine that with easy access from Kalamata International Airport and an excellent climate, it comes as no surpruise that Costa Navarino has garnered such an impressive reputation.
