Year‐Round Recreation

Who says you can’t enjoy the great outdoors when the weather starts to get below freezing? At some of the New York’s most luxurious, new condominiums, amenities are getting winter-proofed so that residents can enjoy their favourite outdoor activities all 12 months of the year.

From indoor lap lanes to bright basketball courts, Abode2 showcases a selection of condominiums that allow residents to stay active and energized no matter the season, with temperature-controlled indoor spaces that mimic the outdoors.

40 West 12th

Designed by Atlanta-based firm Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, 40 West 12th Street is a 16-story tower that sits within a massive $530 million mixed-use development that lured both Google and the Epicurean. The condominium, developed by Selig Enterprises and Rockefeller Group, features 64 stunning residences designed to capture the attention of locals and transplants in search of a high-design lifestyle with unmatched access to the outdoors. 40 West 12th presents a medley of exceptional amenities, with an all-season, high-level pool as one of its highlights. Residents are able to swim or lounge beneath retractable floor-to-ceiling windows, next to a deck with sweeping views of Midtown. They’ll feel like they’re outside, without actually having to be outside, on colder days.

150 East 78th

Designed by the award-winning Robert A.M. Stern Architects, 150 East 78th Street represents the newest boutique building that redefines classical architecture on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Ranging from three-to-five-bedroom homes, the building features interiors and curated amenity spaces designed by AD100 interior designer Robert Couturier. Included in the substantial amenity collection is one of the few private resident regulation squash courts in Manhattan. As part of the building's Athletic Club, the court allows for physical recreation anytime of year. The court also features a retractable basketball hoop.

200 East 59th

An icon of classic modernism with its wraparound terraces and bold, white columns, 200 East 59th Street is a luxury condominium tower designed by CetraRuddy to bring the outdoors in. Each of its 67 residences features walls of floor-to-ceiling glass that open onto expansive private outdoor spaces, redefining the indoor-outdoor experience. This concept translates to the all-new amenities level, which includes a double-height residents lounge equipped with an open-concept catering kitchen, dining room and fireplace sitting area. Through massive expanses of glass encompassing the space, the room virtually eliminates the distinction between indoors and outdoors, and places residents into the hustle and bustle of the Midtown Manhattan streetscape. Adjacent to the lounge, there is also a bright, windowed fitness center that is perfect for those wanting some Vitamin D while they exercise in the coldest of winter.

Century Plaza

Soaring beyond the hotel are Century Plaza’s two new 44-story glass residential towers, 211 Elm and 115 Park, featuring 268 1 to 4-bedroom, masterfully designed homes by internationally renowned architects Pei, Cobb, Freed & Partners. Both towers will have a temperature-controlled wine room with private storage lockers, children’s playroom, screening room, game room, library, private dining room, cabana-lined outdoor pool and gardens with a spacious lawn. Owners will also enjoy a maintained dog park, spa-inspired bathrooms and a team of on-demand concierge, butlers and valets, as well as a banquet-sized dining room with catering kitchen.
