Why Verbier is the Alpine place to be

Verbier has long been one of the Alps' crowning jewels. As the main resort in Switzerland's largest ski area, Les 4 Vallées, Verbier's popularity stems from its combination of exquisite scenery, sunny weather, easy accessibility and thriving nightlife.

When it comes to taking to the slopes, Verbier has terrain to suit all levels, although confident and adventurous skiers and snowboarders primarily favour it. Served by some 80 lifts across 410km of runs, variety is in abundance here, with some of the best lift-served off-piste slopes in the Alps.

Standing at 1,500m, and with heights of up to 3,300m accessible via two consecutive rides on the Médran gondola, Verbier is a safe bet throughout the season – snow sure thanks to its altitude. While the location for the best views is a hotly contested title in the Alps, Verbier indeed hosts some spectacular views, with the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc visible from Mont Fort at the top of the ski area, standing at 3,300m.

At the base of the gondola, on the Rue de Médran, you will find the illustrious W Hotel Verbier as well as the majority of the resort's bars, shops and restaurants. In addition to the shops and eateries, you will also find on Verbier's designated focal point, Place Centrale. An easily accessible resort, Verbier is just two and a half hours via public transport or private transfer from Geneva airport. The resort's popularity has extended to the UK, as well as the Dutch and Scandinavians, although it remains an authentically Swiss destination, much favoured by its people.
