Mexico City’s luxury residential market is being reshaped by the convergence of lifestyle-driven relocation and a desire for stylish living, new research reveals.
No longer just a holiday destination, the city’s easy global accessibility has shifted the market’s focus from short visits to long-term living. Buyers are now seeking primary residences and lifestyle anchors that offer more than just a getaway.
The luxury market’s stability is driven by one simple reality: high demand meets limited supply in the most desirable areas, notably prime coastal zones and heritage neighbourhoods. "Locations such as Lomas de Chapultepec, Polanco, Bosques de las Lomas and Pedregal, which emphasise al fresco living, gardens, terraces and social spaces are in high demand," confirms Alba Fernandez Garcia of Engel and Volkers Mexico City office. "These properties tend to highlight traditional architecture while offering the opportunity to renovate with modern amenities and connectivity."
International buyers comprise a key force, but their motivations have evolved. Beyond simple investment, they are seeking diversification and a change of pace. Mexico’s “trendy” status is backed by substance - world-class cuisine, vibrant biodiversity and a pleasant climate. Adds Alba: "For many, a home here is a sanctuary against global uncertainty; overseas buyers putting down roots are prioritising quality of life and the long-term enjoyment of assets over quick returns."
