Come let us sing!
At the Ecole d'Humanité we celebrate our community in song. Music unites humanity and enables us to express our joy. Every Saturday we gather together to sing as a school, nothing unusual you may say, but our repertoire certainly is. We sing songs in over twenty different languages, songs that reflect the cultural diversity of our school. We sing with a passion and outside as the video shows. It is this passion that permeates us all when we are united in song and gives us goose pimples.

Therefore we are delighted that we can do this again as Covid restrictions are relaxed. We have missed it.
Songs reflect the mood of people and their experiences. Be it a call to action in Bella Ciao for social change or the gentle tones of Scarborough fair reflecting on a relationship. We have a top ten, one which is sung with particular gusto is Beethoven`s Signor Abbate. The tenors belt out “Hol Sie der Teufel, wenn Sie nicht kommen! Truly impressive and aweinspiring.
My particular favorites are the Shanties, “Santiano,” reflecting on the sea passage of a French Schooner from St. Malo, not forgetting the oldchestnut “What shall we do with the drunken sailor?” We whistle and do the actions to, and this raises our spirits and sets us up for a positive day.
It is this experience of joy in song that has united Ecolianer for over 75 years, and that our alumni carry in their hearts. So I say again, come let us sing and make the world a happier place and spread the joy that singing brings.
