frenchCALIFORNIA, the interior design firm founded by Guillaume Coutheillas, reveals the design for Residence 909 at 450 Washington in Tribeca, New York City
Among the city’s most desirable neighbourhoods, Tribeca is a downtown melting pot of vibrant creativity, leafy green parks, bespoke local restaurants, and fashion-forward shopping. Located along Tribeca’s historic waterfront and the spectacular Hudson River Park, Related re-developed a full city block into 450 Washington, which has seen incredible success as one of the top-selling buildings of 2023. From Tribeca’s historic cobblestone streets, residents arrive at 450 Washington through a gated entryway into a private oasis of lush green space.
Residence 909 is a four-bedroom apartment with a design that balances subtlety and simplicity with sophistication and artfully-minded design choices.
Pieces in the space utilize natural materials like Oak and Walnut and are complemented by thick fabrics and textured wall treatments. frenchCALIFORNIA primarily used vintage pieces to outfit the space, many of them sourced from Coutheillas' personal collection acquired from his travels.
Much of the lighting is provided by Philips Hue in collaboration with the brand, featuring their Gradient Signe Floor Lamp, which blends multiple colours together to paint the walls with a unique gradient of light to curate different environments and moods throughout the day.
All of the paint colours in the residence are from Memories En Couleur, a capsule paint collection that reinterprets ancient textures and materials, created in collaboration with Color Atelier.
Known for designing immersive spaces that transport visitors, frenchCALIFORNIA is integrating an acoustic technology component into residence 909. Apple's HomePod mini speakers are incorporated throughout the space, and were specifically chosen as a platform for frenchCALIFORNIA to integrate Berlin-based AI sound wellness app Endel into the residence. Using Spatial Audio on the devices via Endel, frenchCALIFORNIA chose an immersive soundscape to envelope visitors as they enter the residence, encouraging potential buyers to imagine the home as a place in which to unwind and relax.
