Valencia is known all over the world for its Las Fallas festival in March, but as you'd expect from this stunning Spanish city, the party isn't just confined to one month. Jolanda van de Streek from ImmoVario tells us why Valencia is the place to go in July for music-lovers.
The annual Vivers concert season held at the Vivers Gardens in Valencia is just one part of the Gran Feria de Valencia which is held in July every year. Different neighbourhoods in the beautiful city of Valencia celebrate the Feria in their own way, but the Vivers Gardens, or Jardins de Vivers as they are known locally, are centre stage to a whole host of national and international musicians who play on the open-air stage.
The Vivers Gardens date back to Moorish times and are worth a visit all year round. Originally designed to look like the Generalife gardens at the Alhambra in Granada; the gardens were a place to relax in the hot summers and even today there are places within the park that are specially designed for those who want to take a break from the sun.
With sculptures, fountains and an important zoological collection which was started in the 15th century, the gardens should be top of the list of places to visit when you are next in Valencia. Within the grounds of the gardens you'll find the Museum of Natural Sciences, tennis courts and cages of exotic birds. It sounds like an eclectic mix but in true Spanish style it works.
This year's edition has a grand total of 19 evenings of live music, beginning on July 4 and ending on the July 28. Pop, rock, cumbia, folk and of course, flamenco, are just some of the music varieties you can expect to hear from the 40 different acts on the playlist.
Top acts this year include Rubén Blades and the Roberto Delgado Salsa Big Band, a Grammy award-winning salsa band from Panama, Izal, a Spanish indie band who originally hail from Madrid. Galician singer Iván Ferreiro is on the bill as are The Waterboys, a Scottish and Irish folk rock band who have been together since 1983.
Tickets are available at https://concertsdevivers.com/conciertos-de-viveros/?lang=es and can be bought for individual concerts.
