Abode2 caught up with creative mastermind and founder of Elicyon, Charu Gandhi, to find out the hottest interior design tips for the coming year.
Styles are ever-changing and most of us try and stay ‘en vogue’ when decorating and furnishing our homes, but it takes a keen eye and mind to predict the trends of the future.
With her extensive background in the design industry, Charu Gandhi, a qualified architect and director of interior design studio Elicyon, is an expert in looking forward and staying ahead of the curve. With her finger on the pulse, she tells Abode2 there are a number of elegant interior aspects likely to make a significant impact on interior design in the months ahead.
Florals
“Flowers are the new art, and the perfect way to contrast the urban setting of many city projects,” says Charu. “Whether fresh or faux, they can be used as a subtle extension of a client and property’s personality, bringing fragility and luxury to a space in equal measure.”
At an apartment in Burlington Gate, Charu and the Elicyon team adopted a sophisticated take on a whimsical floral approach, likely to appeal to a young and creative purchaser, to create texture and atmosphere.
Colours and Fabrics
“2018 will see a focus on brighter bolder colours such as blush pink, terracotta and aqua, all set against timeless neutrals, explains Charu. “The use of natural materials and creative and unusual artisan techniques including timbers, fibres woven into fabrics and straw marquetry are also likely to have a great influence.”
Playful trims and fringes, bringing a soft and lighthearted feel to pieces are also championed by the Elicyon team alongside a focus on transparency with exquisite sheer window dressings referencing Vogue’s trend for see-through handbags that reveal neatly curated interiors.
Personalisation
The creation of bespoke logos, monograms, personalised linens and crockery sets have all featured in Elicyon’s recent work adding something entirely unique to clients’ homes – the ultimate luxury.
“At a private villa in Kuwait that we designed, a family logo was embroidered onto cushions, linens and even integrated into subtle joinery elements,” says Charu. “In an extension of this theme, we have also worked with clients’ favoured suppliers including Lalique and Wedgewood to create a bespoke engraving to appear on selected pieces.”
Lighting
Lighting, according to Charu, is an integral part of any property and the opportunity to perfectly showcase form and function.
“We approach lighting as a playful, decorative and sculptural entity and take great care in selecting the right materials to create the perfect hue,” adds Charu. “In the coming months we expect to see innovations in task lighting with the careful integration and celebration of a particular accent or beautiful detail.”
