Shakira’s Private Island Home For Sale

A private island in the Bahamas that once belonged to global pop star Shakira and other high-profile investors, including Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, is now on the market. The asking price? $30 million.

The 650-acre property, known as Bonds Cay, is located in the Berry Islands, about 155 miles from Fort Lauderdale and 37 miles from Nassau in the northern Bahamas, making it relatively easy to reach while still offering total privacy.

Shakira and the investment group purchased Bonds Cay in 2006 with plans to develop it into a luxury destination featuring a boutique hotel, residences, private beaches and an artists’ retreat for global creatives. However, those plans never came to fruition, and the island has remained largely undeveloped since then.

Listing agent Gavin Christie of Corcoran CA Christie Bahamas says the island’s untouched natural beauty, with long stretches of white-sand beaches, lush tropical vegetation and clear turquoise waters, makes Bonds Cay one of the most impressive private island offerings currently available in the Caribbean.

“Bonds Cay feels wonderfully remote,” Christie comments, “yet it’s only a short distance from Nassau and Florida, providing absolute privacy without sacrificing convenient access.”

The Berry Islands region is also known for abundant marine life and sport fishing, with nearby Chub Cay often called the “Billfish Capital of the Bahamas.” This natural appeal adds to the island’s attraction for both private ownership and potential resort or residential development.

Although the original vision for an artists’ retreat and resort has stalled, the new listing presents a rare opportunity for buyers interested in building a private paradise, hospitality destination or exclusive enclave, while preserving the island’s ecological character.
