An exciting architectural development will soon define the skyline along the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal – with the rise of the 32-storey Pop Symphonia residential tower.
Covering a land area of 29,590 metre squared, the unique curved development project will be built by Provencher Roy Architect, comprising of 240 apartments – between one and three bedrooms.
Symphonia POP features a curved face that has been designed with the use of transparent and offset glazing panels. The distinctive, cubic architecture, features the jutting out of the superimposed cubes - called ‘pops’.
Situated on the southern tip of Île-des-Sœurs, Symphonia POP will contain elegant facilities including an indoor pool, a hot tub and sauna, a gym and a hall for private receptions and a lounge. Within the lush surroundings will be recreational elements such as a heated outdoor pool and the bike path.
This new shoreline building will define the site’s landscape architecture as well as offering views of the riverbank and downtown Montreal.
“In order to maintain an architectural coherence between the new building and the existing one, we decided to extend certain distinctive elements of the Phase I architecture while redefining others so as to give the overall complex a fresh momentum,” says Roch Cayouette, partner-architect at Provencher Roy.
“We decided to keep the river/city duality present in the visual scheme of Phase 1 by introducing a concept that would specifically address these two entities.”
The architects designed the interior to allow more natural light in and will construct the outdoor recreational environments to echo the curvature of the lobby and its resonance in the shape of the pool.
Symphonia POP is accessible via future new rail system Champlain Bridge, the new Turcot Interchange and the Réseau électrique métropolitain. The project will begin in summer 2018 and is expected to be completed by autumn 2020.
