Sustainable development The Arc - which prioritises the health and wellness of its occupants – is now complete.
Belgian international development firm, Ghelamco, has completed its flagship development in London – The Arc – which will be the first UK building to be awarded the prestigious DGNB certification for sustainability. Combined with two other major certifications – BREEAM and WELL - The Arc is not just somewhere energy efficient to live… it will also make you healthier.
DGNB, the German Sustainable Building Council, is the European market leader for sustainable building certification systems. These buildings are recognised for consuming fewer resources during construction, have lower greenhouse gas emissions during their whole life cycle and have a particular focus on low material impact and circularity. Meanwhile BREEAM (the Building Research Establishment’s environmental assessment method) recognises how a building is built well above code requirements, protects natural resources and creates valuable property investments. Whilst WELL reinforces how a development’s design positively impacts the health, wellbeing, engagement and productivity of everyone that lives and works there, covering elements such as air and water quality, thermal comfort, healthy materials, physical exercise, healthy food, mindfulness and community.
Internationally, Ghelamco is known for its sustainability credentials, with all of their developments to date awarded either ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Excellent’ BREEAM certification. The Arc is no exception, setting a new standard for holistic sustainable living in the heart of London, being fully-electric where carbon emissions are 30% lower than its multi fuel-operated cousins and health and wellbeing is at its core.
Named after the luminescent arches at its entrance, The Arc stands as a jewel in the heart of East London’s tech hub. It has been designed by the architects of the Saatchi Gallery - Allford Hall Monaghan Harris – and was inspired by New York with its industrial charm of the Art Moderne red façade.
150,000 sq ft commercial spaces occupy the first seven floors whilst the top fifteen levels are home to the residences. Each EPC-A rated home has an air-source heat pump, there is a central water harvesting and recycling system, whilst the heating and cooling systems in the communal areas are designed to eliminate air flow and reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses. The 22-storey mixed-use building will also have co-working spaces, superfast broadband and a smartphone app through which you can do anything from call the lift to reserve a table in the ground-floor restaurant.
There are also yoga and meditation spaces, a cinema room, golf simulator, 236 cycle hub with showers and lockers and London’s first UFC gym. A communal lounge and landscaped roof terrace offers panoramic views, seating and open-air terrace too, designed by the landscape architect behind the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, complete with edible plants as well as bee and butterfly friendly plants and flowers.
Located at the crossroads of five dynamic districts – The City, Shoreditch, Old Street, Angel and Hoxton – The Arc is also better connected than ever. Show homes are available for viewing by appointment only. Prices start from £735,000.
