Made famous as a backdrop for a series of notable films including Notting Hill and Paddington, Portobello Road is renowned across the globe as one of London’s most iconic locations. A newly-refurbished property which has just launched to the market boasts a strikingly modern interior creating a pleasing contrast to the rich historical background of the address. The two-bedroom split-level apartment with roof terrace at 87 Portobello Road is for sale through local experts Russell Simpson for £1.65 million.

Property of the Week

Sitting atop the London Antique Clock Centre, which has occupied the space since the 1960s, the property spans 862 sq. ft. and has gone through a full transformation while retaining its charm by keeping some original features. The design has been masterminded by leading architecture practice Transit Studio, with interiors by east London designers Beton Brut. The apartment is entered through a private front door and a staircase leads to the first floor, which comprises two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The master bedroom at the front of the property boasts French doors to a Juliette balcony with views over the pretty pastel-hued homes which line Denbigh Terrace. The room also has copious storage space and an ensuite shower room embellished with bespoke Calcutta marble. The second bedroom is illuminated by a skylight and has a balcony area with views over the surrounding landscape, including vistas of Grade II* listed St Peter’s Church.

On the second floor, the reception space is of breath-taking proportions and the carefully-considered, upscale design of the room is the main focus. The vaulted ceiling fit with tongue and groove boarding is complemented by the textures of the exposed brick around the fireplace. Further skylights illuminate the space and the fully-fitted kitchen has terrazzo worktops and integrated Barazza appliances. A doorway leads to the main roof terrace, which provides views of the surrounding west London landscape and creates a great social space for the warmer months.

Notting Hill is best-known as the setting for the blockbuster film of the same name, and the majority of the movie was shot in and around locations surrounding Portobello Road and neighbouring Westbourne Park Road. Also close to home is Alice’s, a renowned antique shop across the street which was used as one of the locations for the Paddington films, doubling as the workplace of antique dealer Samuel Gruber. The apartment also overlooks Denbigh Terrace, the fictional home of Charlie Croker, the character played by Michael Caine in The Italian Job.

Portobello Road is home to one of London’s most popular street markets which takes place every Saturday, and is part of the annual Notting Hill Carnival route. The home is a short walk from Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill Gate underground stations and walking distance from Holland Park and Kensington Gardens.

Hattie Russell, Sales Negotiator at Russell Simpson, commented: “This is a really exquisitely refurbished property and presents a rare opportunity to live in one of London’s most well-known addresses. It would really suit an individual looking to benefit from the buzz of living within Portobello Road and its eclectic, exciting surroundings.

“The home has been refurbished with the greatest attention to detail and is within close distance to the area’s attractions and amenities and an easy distance of central London.”

87 Portobello Road is on the market at £1,650,000 with viewings strictly by appointment only. For further sales information, contact Russell Simpson on 020 7225 0277 or visit www.russellsimpson.co.uk
