VOZA Developments has revealed the stunning interior design of its latest development, Ferme Fougere, a former French farmhouse dating back to 1825. Inspired by the history of the building and its Alpine surrounding, the four-storey luxury chalet boasts many of its original features and natural, locally sourced materials reconfigured into a stunning contemporary property that complements and respects its setting.

Having managed the development and design process of Ferme Fougere, VOZA Developments aspired to be as sustainable as possible, a key focus across all its projects. The internal interior design team has saved, reused and repurposed a considerable amount of the original internal materials within the former farmhouse so it retains its rustic charm. Much of the timber has been reused to internally clad the spaces and old sledges have been repurposed into exclusive one-of-a-kind coffee tables. VOZA Developments even went as far as saving an old grapevine that was wrapped around the building and reattached it to the new balcony.

Alex Pope, Design Partner at VOZA, commented: “Sustainability within design is something really important to us. We kept and repurposed as much of the original structure and materials at Ferme Fougere as possible, to reduce the negative impacts on the environment. Reusing these materials also really benefits the design of the farmhouse as the natural features give it character and soul, whilst our reconfiguration of the space creates a contemporary reinterpretation of a chalet.” 

Upon entering Ferme Fougere visitors are met with beautiful polished concrete floors and walls and ceilings wrapped in rustic warm timber, a design feature seen throughout the former farmhouse. This classic Alpine materiality combined with a contemporary palette sets the interior design of the luxury chalet apart. Modern art adorns the walls of the entrance hall and hidden doors lead off to spacious bedrooms, a design detail that provides intrigue and fun.

The timber and polished concrete materials are carried through to the bedrooms which feature a mix of both characterful, hand-crafted bespoke timber bunk beds and double suites with natural Piglet bed linen. Vintage lighting within the bedrooms were sourced by VOZA to create a rustic feel, whilst the bespoke spa-like bathrooms feature both tactile natural stone tops, which are wonderfully accented with bespoke handmade concrete tiles from Popham Design.

Once known as the Grange - where hay bales were stored during the winter months - the first floor has been reconfigured by VOZA Developments into a grand open-plan kitchen / living / dining space. The perfect place to entertain, the space features a statement centrepiece fireplace crafted from locally sourced granite found in the nearby river. Following VOZA’s key theme of bespoke design within the project the integrated kitchen features beautiful custom-made charcoal timber cabinetry with statement granite countertops and the dining area boasts a stunning table, made by a local carpenter with rustic pendent from Ile de Re hanging above it.

Internally the former farmhouse features a number of essential winter amenities. Including a secure ski and boot storage, a Nordic wood fired hot pub and an exquisite hand-crafted 10-person sauna that was transformed from the original ‘cave’ where delicious local Reblochon cheeses were matured.

On Ferme Fougere’s interior design, Felix Langlois, Partner at VOZA, said: “The building has such an interesting history and throughout our designs we wanted to try and retain as much of the original features as possible. We sourced the property and worked with them to create a beautiful space that has character with a luxury feel and is an attractive rental asset.”

Located in Saint-Gervais-Les Bains, Ferme Fougere is a stone’s throw from the ‘St Gervais’ ski run, which leads down to the base of the Bettex ski lift, which provides access to the coveted ‘Evasion Mont Blanc’ ski area and Megeve. The Mont Blanc Tram cog railway, connecting to the pass above Les Houches is a short drive, whilst Geneva Airport is 84km away.
