As new multi-disciplinary practice NEMAR brings new energy to the design world, Abode2 takes a look at one of their recent projects, a stunning penthouse in the Swiss Alps
Maresca Interiors have recently merged with GN Architecture to give life to NENMAR, a multi-disciplinary practice specialising in delivering meaningful architecture and works on a variety of projects of different size and scope, both in the UK and internationally.
The studio has recently completed a beautiful penthouse Engadine, in the Swiss Alps.
The brief required the remodelling of an existing penthouse and Nenmar’s approach was to think of the interior as a boat where every empty/full space was made into a functional space. The existing kitchen was removed to unlocked the plan to free up priority space for daily use.
Concealed doors discretely hide rooms and functional spaces, leaving the formal integrity untouched. The proposed design retained features of interest such as the existing timber beams where the ‘new’ is expressed in a contemporary way. Fixed furniture and soft furnishings are made to measure. The natural materials comprise knotless natural oak water-based finish, Matraia stone honed and limestone render.
Amongst the things to note is the environmental quality of the project; the timber throughout the property was sourced from an old barn that was being dismantled and restored to its original finish; the Matraia stone was reused from a waste stone block, which determined the size of the two sinks; the wall was finished with natural limestone render.
Nenmar is currently working on a number of other projects, bringing their unique approach and style to residences and developments all over the world.
