Clifton College is a co-educational day and boarding school for 2-18 year olds set in the leafy suburbs of Bristol.
Since its creation by Dr John Percival in 1862, Clifton College has been at the forefront of educational thinking and a leading and influential public school nationally.
The location and facilities at Clifton provide an excellent learning environment. It is housed in some splendid grand buildings but everything about the education is modern. The facilities on offer range from the Forest School, which instils the youngest pupils with vital life skills and develops teamwork and self-esteem, to the adjacent Bristol Zoo, which is a rich resource for art, biology and geography pupils. The facilities also include the Percival Library, a beautiful Grade II listed building which houses more than 15,000 books, the impressive Chapel dating back to 1867, and the 300-seat Redgrave Theatre.
The school’s extensive sports grounds total 90 acres, providing pupils with international standard indoor and outdoor facilities. These include a water-based hockey Astro, a 3G rugby pitch, a netball and tennis dome, as well as a range of traditional courts including rackets, fives and real tennis.
The College also enjoys an unrivalled science heritage of Nobel prize winners which arose from the highly equipped and staffed Science School, which attracts pupils from across the globe. The school has its own science library, the Stone Library, which includes periodicals as well as rare books and manuscripts.
Alongside excellent facilities, the College strives to have one of the strongest common rooms in the country with teachers that lead in their sector. They use innovative teaching techniques and have a strong understanding of individual pupil’s needs.
The House-based pastoral care at Clifton is outstanding and the links between the House staff, academic staff and co-curricular staff are incredibly strong which provides superb holistic support and ensures that pupils take advantage of the opportunities available to them and reach their potential.
Music, art and drama play a large part in the life of the school, as do sport, outdoor pursuits,
Clifton in the Community and the Combined Cadet Force. These activities are more than just add-on ‘extras’ and form a central part of the well-rounded education offered to students. The wide range of activities available include caving, code breaking, climbing, survival skills, sailing, kayaking, LAMDA, Model United Nations, fencing, Ten Tors and more than 30 different music groups.
