Marlborough College community gathered to honour all those who lost their lives in service to their country. The ceremonies paid tribute in particular to the hundreds of former pupils who died during the First and Second World Wars, as well as those who have served in more recent conflicts.
Remembrance Sunday.
On Sunday, the Chapel was filled for the annual Remembrance Service, which included readings, prayers, and the laying of wreaths and the Book of Remembrance at the High Altar. The service reflected on the courage, duty, and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in defence of others.
The College’s Combined Cadet Force played a prominent role, with cadets forming an Honour Guard and participating in the service. Following the ceremony, families and senior cadets gathered for a Remembrance Lunch to mark the occasion.
Armistice Day
On Tuesday, the College paused once again to observe Armistice Day. At 10:58 a.m., the Last Post was sounded across Court, followed by a two-minute silence held in complete stillness. The moment concluded with the Reveille and the recitation of the Kohima Epitaph:
“When you go home, tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
The proceedings ended with a final prayer of reflection and remembrance, bringing to a close a series of events that reminded all present of the importance of gratitude, memory, and peace.
