What can be better than bringing a new lease of life to an old building, especially when you take something drab and inject heart, soul and luxury into the equation?
That is exactly what has been happening for the past seven years in London’s Marylebone – and now the hard work has paid off with the completion of the brand new Chiltern Place.
A combined effort between Ronson Capital Partners and PLP Architecture, what once was an office block has been transformed into a brand new 15-floor, 55 home terracotta masterpiece. And it has been many years in the making to turn it from a commercial space into eye-catching, high-end homes.
“This building is very interesting for us as we started work at the end of 2010 and have just reached completion now,” says Mark Kelly of PLP Architecture. “What started out as a refurbishment project of a 12 storey office building turned into creating some truly remarkable luxury homes.”
“In addition, because it is just outside of the conservation area, we realised if we demolished a lot of the structure holding the floor plate off we could actually make it more in keeping with the surrounding area.”
The highest building in the area offers uninterrupted skyline views overlooking Regents Park to the North and Mayfair to the south. And the interior has been elegantly designed by Tomasz Starzewski, who ensured high class and bespoke looks in every single room.
Bathrooms utilise fantastic marble from Greece, walls are upholstered, carpets are plush and rooms are elegant and inviting. Each kitchen has been specifically designed for each apartment with Miele or Gaggenau appliances.
It has a modern style which has a throwback to the 70s which in turn is a re-envisioning of the 1930s.
“In designing the space I worked to ensure that it was something that could be modern, traditional or a mix, all at once,” says Tomasz. “This means the end buyer can do anything they want to do, whether it be adding a 15th century painting or even going to Heals and buying something. Whatever they introduce it will work.”
A residents club complete with a fully fitted gym, library, meeting rooms and lounge sits on the first floor. But it is not just the interior that has a high-end makeover, the new apartment complex has a grand new garden area – thanks to design consultant Stephen Woodhams - complete with a mesmerising sculpture series from artist Owen Bullet.
“Marylebone is one of the most desirable locations in London, so we are excited to launch Chiltern Place, which offers high-quality homes at the heart of this charming London village,” says Lisa Ronson, Commercial Director of Ronson Capital Partners. “Our focus has been to create beautiful residences from which homeowners can enjoy the unique lifestyle on the doorstep.”
Knight Frank and Savills have been appointed as joint selling agents. Prices start from £1.95m for a one bedroom apartment.
