Latest Designs For Battersea Power Station Unveiled By Renowned Architects

18.06.19

Battersea Power Station has released new images showcasing the latest designs for its forthcoming projects by renowned architects Foster + Partners, WilkinsonEyre and Gehry Partners.

The unveiling coincides with the launch of a new marketing suite which opened to the public this month and features a 2.4m high interactive model of the Power Station and an ‘immersion room’ showcasing a model made from the same bricks being used to restore the iconic building itself.

New images showcase the breathtaking views from what will become one of the largest roof terraces in Europe, where residents and visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views over London and onto the iconic Power Station itself. The terrace, which features picnic spots, sun decks and fitness areas, sits on top of Foster + Partners’ Battersea Roof Gardens and has been designed by the team behind the New York High Line – James Corner Field Operations – with delivery being managed by LDA Design.

Battersea Roof Gardens and Prospect Place represent the first ever collaboration between Foster and Gehry and together make ‘Electric Boulevard’, the third phase of the regeneration project.

Battersea Power Station is one of Europe’s largest regeneration projects and continues to gain momentum following completion of the first phase, Circus West Village, which is now home to over 1,000 residents, while the restoration of the Power Station, the second phase which is being carefully restored and transformed by WilkinsonEyre Architects, continues at pace, opening to the public in 2021.

Simon Murphy, CEO of Battersea Power Station, said: “We are making real progress now with the transformation of the Power Station, which will soon become one of London’s most exciting new destinations, home to Apple’s London Campus as well as several hundred shops, restaurants, events spaces and of course some of the finest residences in the world. Momentum is also building on our third phase, which brings together the very best architects in the world to create something truly unique for London.

“As both elements of the project move forward simultaneously and as we open the doors on our new marketing suite, we are pleased to be able to share some new images of what we believe will be one of the most exciting new neighbourhoods in London.”

Sebastien Ricard, Director at WilkinsonEyre, said: “Our approach is to celebrate the industrial heritage of the building, its scale and volumes and evolve the structure to encompass different uses, effectively creating a mini city within the power station. The mix of uses includes more than 250 homes, over 45,000sqm of offices, more than 100 shops, an event space, a park, a public platform lift in one of the chimneys with a viewing platform 100m up in the air.

“Having the right balance of activities within the building is what will make the project a success. It is a big challenge in major developments to create an active community from day one, however here we are lucky to be working with a place steeped in history. This combination of mixed-uses and heritage makes the scheme an appealing place to live and work.”

Andy Bow, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners, said: “The Battersea Power Station project has provided an extraordinary opportunity to build a new mixed-use neighbourhood for London. It combines the revitalisation of a historic icon of the city with progressive urbanism – building dense developments in close proximity to new and existing transport infrastructure and bringing together vibrant and dynamic places to live, work and play. Our building seeks to drive the spirit of this project forward, situated directly over the northern line extension and anchoring one end of the new high street with an incredible mix of shops, apartments, a hotel and one of London’s largest roof gardens.”

Ben Walker, Director at LDA Design, said: “The public and private spaces of this incredible site are designed to cater for the communities of the future. We are tackling modern problems such as loneliness, mental and physical health through a variety of spaces that bring people together physically, emotionally and culturally. We want people to be surprised by their new home, we want them to be proud and we want them to expect the unexpected keeping the magic of living in London at the very forefront of their minds.”

Fosters’ Battersea Roof Gardens will be an undulating building with a glass façade, designed to be crisp and white in contrast to the brick Power Station. The homes will be styled in a subtle 1930s theme inspired by the Power Station, with two finishes available; Cloud and Steam. The northern end of the building will be home to the art’otel, a new 167-room hotel boasting a rooftop swimming pool and bar.

Gehry’s Prospect Place comprises a cluster of five buildings each with striking sculptural façades inspired by London’s famous John Nash Regency terraces. Each individual building has its own personality and style and all the apartments come with winter gardens or their own terraces to maximise the light and views. ‘The Flower’, which sits at the centre of The Electric Boulevard, forms a stunning focal point between the other buildings and is destined to be a new landmark for London.

LDA Design are designing and delivering the public realm across the first three phases, including all the roof spaces, streets and Prospect Park as well as the Riverfront Park.

Mark Hutton, Head of Sales and Lettings at Battersea Power Station, added: “These homes will undoubtedly be some of the finest residences in London, with arguably the best views of the city and along the River Thames. We are continuing to see strong levels of demand from buyers both domestically and overseas, having sold over £120m of property in the last year alone and from these new images it is not hard to see why.”

Apartments are available to buy from £510,000. Please contact the Sales Team for further information at sales@bpsdc.co.uk or call +44 (0)207 501 0678. The Marketing Suite is open Monday – Friday 9am-6pm and Saturdays 10am-4pm and is located at 21-22 Circus Road West, Battersea Power Station, London SW11 8EZ
