The Italian luxury real estate market reached a historic milestone as a landmark residential sale surpassed the 160 million euro mark, officially becoming the most expensive property transaction in the nation’s history.
The sale of the extraordinary Mediterranean style estate, located in the prestigious Romazzino area of the Costa Smeralda, shattered previous records for both Sardinia and mainland Italy. Italy Sotheby’s International Realty facilitated the transaction, representing an international buyer in the acquisition of the property.
The estate carried a pedigree as remarkable as its price tag. Originally designed by the renowned architect Luigi Vietti, the property was acquired in the 1970s by Henry Ford II, grandson of the automotive titan. In 1974, it passed into the hands of the late Ahmed Zaki Yamani, the former Saudi oil minister and a globally influential figure.
Situated on two point three hectares of prime seafront, the estate offered a level of privacy and scale rarely seen in the Mediterranean. The property boasted twenty eight bedrooms, thirty five bathrooms, and expansive terraces with unrivalled sea views. The grounds spanned approximately twenty three thousand square meters of lush gardens and granite rock landscapes, featuring three swimming pools, two private beaches, and two private piers overlooking the turquoise waters of Romazzino Bay.
This historic transaction cast a renewed international spotlight on the Costa Smeralda, confirming its status as one of the most exclusive destinations in the world. The sale also reinforced the market standing of Italy Sotheby’s International Realty, which has facilitated several iconic residential sales in recent years, including the seventy one million euro sale of Palazzo Raggi in Rome and a twenty five million euro property in Milan.
