It Does Take A Village

Johnny Depp has listed his village estate in the South of France for the third time at $55.5 million, after failing to sell in 2015 for $27 million and in 2016 for $63 million. Depp bought Le Plan-de-la-Tour, a 19^th century picturesque Provençal village in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, back in 2001 and investing over $10 million to make the 37-acre property into a family home for him and, his then wife, French-actress-and-singer Vanessa Paradis.

The village is in a prime location, only 17 miles away from the infamous celebrity favoured destination of Saint-Tropez. The costal town on the French Riviera became popular with pop culture figures in the 1950’s when Bridgette Bardot arrived to film And God Created Woman, fell in love with the town and chose to stay. Bardot set the trend for celebs to visit the luxurious location. Names such as Kate Moss, Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyonce and Jay-, Elton John and all major clothing designers have made Saint-Tropez one of the most popular vacation towns on the French Riviera.

Depp’s estate has over 12,900 square foot of living space with 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms across the main house and six guest houses. The main house accounts for 4,300 square foot of the living space and incudes five of the bedrooms and 4 of the bathrooms. One of the guest houses is located in the converted chapel of the village.

The grounds of the estate feature 300 year old oaks, olive trees and vineyards adding to the traditional ambience bought out of the preservation of the stone and wood beamed structures. Across the estate there are also two swimming pools and a full gym, for the more active owners and guests. For more social occasions the village has a charming town square, perfect for socialising or outside dinning whilst taking in the beauty of the lush landscaping.

Further entertainment opportunities come in the form of the restaurant with a bar and full professional kitchen. The property even boasts a skate park and a wine cave. With creative spaces such as a workshop and a studio, it also has more practical facilities such as a laundry and staff quarters.

The small French village in not the only unique property in Depp’s portfolio. He also owns a collection of penthouses in downtown LA, a 45 acre private island in the Bahamas and a horse farm in Kentucky that he reportedly purchased twice.
