Preparing for a future world where digitalisation is changing life as we know it
Institut auf dem Rosenberg, based in St. Gallen, Switzerland facilitates exceptional academic results and personal development that exceeds the limits of traditional ACeducation, Rosenberg's offering could not be further removed from typical schooling. Since its foundation in 1889, Rosenberg has sought to offer a unique and contemporary learning experience with the aim close the gap between education and the real, professional world of the 21st century. Skills such as adaptability and innovation, which are increasingly overlooked in education systems, form the backbone of Rosenberg's educational ethos. Most education systems firmly hold on to their roots from the 1800's, so how can this educate the leaders of tomorrow?
Rosenberg believes that education must adapt to support students’ needs, so they have the necessary tools to thrive in the dynamic, entrepreneurial world. Headmaster and Director, Bernhard O. A. Gademann comments, “It’s likely that by the time some of the students at Rosenberg are ready to begin their career, technology such as robotics, 3D printing and Artificial Intelligence (AI), will have transformed occupations, therefore making it essential that learning adapts at the same speed to future-proof skills.”
Rosenberg’s ‘Talent & Enrichment Programme’ has been implemented due to Mr Gademann’s concerns about an exclusively traditional academic education. The timetable exposes its students to a choice of over 100 co-curricular courses ranging from Creative Technologies & Robotics to tailor-made workshops at the Norman Foster Foundation. Many of these courses are taught by in-house experts, and by professionals in the corresponding fields. It wouldn’t be unusual to see a Harvard Professor or an engineer from the robotics multinational ABB in discussion with Rosenberg students about business entrepreneurship, Bitcoin start-up or artificial intelligence in today’s workforce.
Beyond this, the school is unique for offering its own curriculum preparing for a choice of five different academic qualifications including British GCE Advanced Levels (A-Levels), the American High School Diploma, Advanced Placement (AP), the International Baccalaureate IB and the German International Baccalaureate (GIB). With state-of-the-art technology at their disposal – from 3D printing and hologram makers to The Creative Lab and two robots – both teachers and students keep ahead of the curve in a world where digitalisation is irrevocably altering the world as we know it.
