Imperial College London, ranked #2 globally in the QS World Rankings 2025, has launched its fourth international science hub in Bengaluru, India. This new hub aims to strengthen the university's research, innovation, and education collaborations with Indian institutions in technologies such as AI, telecommunications, semiconductors, health tech, and clean tech.
The initiative is part of Imperial's global expansion with similar hubs in Singapore, San Francisco, and Accra. According to university president Professor Hugh Brady, the goal is not to establish a branch campus but to deepen impactful partnerships with Indian researchers.
Over the past five years, Imperial researchers have co-authored nearly 2,000 publications with collaborators at over 300 Indian institutions, supported by £170 million in research funding from various sources. The university plans to double this funding over the next five years. Currently, Imperial has around 800 Indian students and 3,000 Indian alumni, and the new Bengaluru hub will initially be staffed by three officials.
