Breast cancer is something that touches a lot of people, whether it be directly or through a close friend or family member.
A diagnosis like this can make for very dark times in someone life, but in a bid to raise awareness, money, and spirits, Holiday House London has touched down in the UK for the first time.
Holiday House was started ten years ago by breast cancer survivor Iris Dankner, who wanted to give back to the breast cancer community somehow. She came up with the idea of hosting an event once a year which would bring together a collection of top designers from around the world in a large show-house where each designer would be given a space to showcase their unique style.
Two large St John’s Wood mansions have been designed by a host of talent, including Susan White of Iggi Interior Design and Phoenix Interior Design, who is a friend of Iris and was heavily involved in the organisation of the event.
“Holiday House is an incredibly worthy cause and we have all been touched by it in one way or another so we feel our involvement in this is our way of giving something back,” says Susan. “It also gives Interior designers a platform to showcase new concepts and how to rethink space planning.”
As a nod to the underlying cause, her room includes pink throughout the design to create a space that is visually pleasing but also plays with the full range of senses.
Touch, smell, sound, and vision are all stimulated in one way or another via a plethora of mediums – ranging from a pink feather wall and a giant floor-to-ceiling screen that visitors can interact with.
Lighting is as important as ever, with Susan going the extra mile by using their limited edition LED-infused wallpaper and one of a kind lighting installations that will visually stimulate visitors. Topping it all off, beautiful music played on a limited edition Steinway piano will gently carry visitors around the room.
Holiday House is about the celebration of life, each day treated with the same reverence as a holiday. All of the proceeds go to charity while showing beautiful work from the designers involved.
The show-homes will be open to the public until December 10.
