More and more fashion brands are turning their attention to homewares. Abode2 checks out a few of the finest mix and match collections
The demand for a home that’s as stylish as you are, and the idea that every brand is a lifestyle package, has given rise to new opportunities for design labels, blurring the lines between fashion apparel and interiors even further. With wallpaper by the likes of Matthew Williamson and cushions by Lacroix, your home might even end up better dressed than you.
Preen is turning bedding into a boudoir of beauty, Gucci’s outre décor collection is selling like hotcakes (geometric G wallpaper? Yes, please) and Dolce is collaborating with Smeg, covering toasters and fridges in their signature baroque prints. For fashion designers, grabbing a piece of the £13 billion a year homeware market is a no-brainer. Abode2 selects 6 of the best.
Temperley London
The British designer is known for her bohemian, artfully dishevelled take on English style — and now you can recline on an Alice-embellished velvet throw, too.
The range also features cushions and tablecloths in signature prints from her archives, handmade and embroidered in India.
Gucci Déco
Designer Alessandro Michele doesn’t think small, so it’s no surprise he wants to fill houses with the same startling aesthetic, a blend of every era and corner of the globe, that he brings to his fashion collections.
The range includes everything from furniture to tableware, wallpaper and porcelain trinket boxes.
Dolce & Gabbana
Billed as a meeting of ‘Sicilian aesthetics and state-of-the-art technology, the Italian duo’s collaborations with high-end domestic appliance brand Smeg started a few years back.
Smeg products are known for their sleek minimalist chrome looks, so seeing some of the company’s signature items covered in Dolce’s bold and beautiful rococo prints is a delight.
Matthew Williamson
As a fashion designer, Williamson was known for his redcarpet dresses and bright colour combinations.
Now he’s left fashion for interiors, creating jungle and leopard covered wallpapers for Osborne & Little and selling candles, stationery and tableware under his own label.
Donna Karan
Her eponymous brand Donna Karan Home and DKNY – comprises two distinctive bedding and bath collections for the home. More recently, PureDKNY was launched: an ecofriendly home collection made from 100% organic cotton. The brand has also collaborated with Lenox – a U.S. market leader in quality table top, giftware and collectibles – to produce a collection of gorgeous home décor and tableware.
Diane Von Furstenberg
Animal prints, batiks and floral graphics make up the printed linens of this stunning collection which draws from the bold colours and intrepid patterns long associated with Von Furstenberg’s famed wrap dresses. The range includes over 150 table top pieces, featuring mugs, dinner plates, and place settings, serving dishes, bowls and placeholders.
“There’s an incredible energy in what Diane does. The industry needs brands like this to bring excitement back into it, to re-engage the consumer and touch their emotions,” states Joe Granger, president of Springs Global.
