Cleo Penfold takes time out to revive her senses at Majorca’s most charming 5-Star Resort, the Carrossa Hotel & Spa

Golden beaches, azure skies and ocean for a hundred miles in every direction: summer in Mallorca is not a tough sell, but with an abundance of luxurious hotels and resorts across the island, deciding where to go can be trickier. Luckily, Carrossa Hotel & Spa’s reputation made the decision an easy one, with its location ideal for a trip to the nearby towns, beaches and golf courses, but if you don’t feel like leaving the resort, you’ll quickly find that you don’t need to.

Among other things, Carrossa is renowned for its architectural beauty. The resort’s centrepiece is its main hotel, a manor house dating back four centuries. While the building has been carefully restored, plenty of original archways and windows still remain and its quaint charm has been preserved. The nearby remnants of another former chapel act as a fascinating window into the storied history of the site.

The property’s exterior is straight from a romance novel postcard, but inside, it’s all luxury. A no-expense-spared renovation has turned Carrossa’s interior into the epitome of everything you would expect from a five-star hotel. A minimalist, crisp, white aesthetic with fashionable pops of statement prints and colours, is echoed across all of the manor house’s rooms and suites, but some touches – such as the wooden rafters visible on many parts of the ceiling – have been left intact to serve as a reminder of the building’s past.

Meanwhile, Carrossa’s suites are built within what were once the stables. The fusion between traditional and contemporary is evident here, too. Behind picturesque stone walls are pristine rooms appointed with everything you could need for your stay.

Whether you opt for a room or a suite, Carrossa’s immersive spa is on your doorstep. Spanning 1,500 square-metres, the facility has been thoughtfully planned to suit every guest. Both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, including a 20-metre infinity pool with a magnificent view over the bay of Alcudia, are lined with comfortable sun loungers and daybeds, all served by a poolside bar. Yoga classes are held every Tuesday and Friday for all levels and nearby, the resort’s gym awaits guests looking for a workout during their stay.

Inside the spa, the ‘world of saunas’ gives a choice between the traditional Finnish Sauna, a cooler Bio Saunaor the popular Steam Bath. Each one is accessible via the spacious Spa Lounge, the ultimate spot to unwind between treatments.

The menu for treatments covers everything from head to toe. Ranging from full-body massages to cosmetic treatments, Carrossa’s team of experienced therapists are fully equipped to immerse guests in luxury pampering. There are even bespoke treatments that make use of unique ingredients such as peppermint and passion fruit - a theme of revering nature’s finest produce that continues when you move onto the venue’s restaurants.

Headlining one of Mallorca’s most respected culinary offerings is the fine dining experience Restaurant Carrossa, which is only enhanced by sweeping terrace views. On the other hand, Bistro Badia offers a decidedly more relaxed atmosphere, switching from tapas and old favourites at lunchtime to a table d’hôte menu in the evenings. The well-stocked Bar Oro is ideal for pre- or post-meal drinks, serving delicately mixed cocktails and wines curated by the resort’s knowledgeable sommeliers. The new outdoor pop-up bar, launched for 2023, further enhances a luminous evening at Carrossa. Here, guests can sip on a selection of signature cocktails, fine wines and soft drinks as they bask in the Mallorca air.
