If you’ve got it, flaunt it. That’s exactly what Touch Design Group are doing with the launch of their brand-new showroom. By Tania Jacobs
When it comes to interior design, sharing thoughts and ideas is essential, but ‘seeing’ is the real start of the creative journey. And what better way to demonstrate that, than to display every stage of the creative process to clients.
That’s exactly what Ed Tremlett and David Crosby, directors of Touch Design Group, have done in their brand-new showroom. Since their inception in 1999, Touch Design have become popular manufacturers of luxe bespoke interiors and a key part of that success is being open with every aspect of the business.
In keeping with that ethos, the team has reformed a vast former Exeter glass factory into workshops, machine and finishing shops and a mezzanine design studio and materials library. A glazed front showroom is the showcase finale, allowing clients to witness from concept through to installation each stage of the process.
“What we wanted to do,” explains Director, David Crosby, “was to present the ‘story’ of the business. “As you come in, you can appreciate the finished article in the showroom, then you come up through the drawing office to see how it’s drawn, then look down through the windows on the workshop to see how it’s made.”
Open four days a week – or by appointment – this spanking new 3,000 square metre space offers an opportunity to view the quality of the company’s work in situ. Alongside a bespoke kitchen interior from in-house brand Touch Kitchen, the showroom presents a number of pieces from their whole house brand, Touch House.
Richard Swift, who heads up the in-house kitchen brand, Touch Kitchen, says: “We offer a breadth of finish and design capabilities, which I believe are pretty unique. We’ve been relatively bold with it, but I’m delighted with the outcome - it all sits together beautifully.”
The new space also features carefully chosen free-standing pieces from Shoreditch based twentieth century design specialist, TwentyTwentyOne, and lighting from Amos Lighting, available to buy direct from Touch.
“The showroom is already proving to be an invaluable tool for us,” adds David. “Clients can really get a sense of the possibilities that are available to them; that what we can do doesn’t need to relate to anything they’ve seen before. It also allows us to show the attention to detail we like to give to each individual project.”
