Abode2 catches up with David Ferns, Managing Director of award-winning design consultancy CID Interior and discovers what the hallmark of accomplished design truly means

Tell us about CID Interior
We are an award-winning, turnkey, interior design agency based in Waterloo, central London. We have been at the forefront of Luxury and Super-Prime interior design for the past ten years and specialise in private residences and luxury hotels, to large scale multiple unit residential developments such as 190 Strand in London.

Our in-house teams have a wide scope of experience and embrace all aspects of design; furniture; environmental graphics; architecture; project management and academic design teaching. As a result we are able to provide truly bespoke, unique designs solutions for each and every client - something we feel is an essential ingredient in maintaining our position as a leader in the creation of pioneering Super Prime, luxury interior design.

Does great design always have to start with a great idea?
Recognising the individuality of each client is the starting point for the creation of a unique, tailored design scheme. Unsurprisingly we don’t have a recognisable house style, as we approach each project and client as a fresh canvas for new ideas and lifestyle thinking.

Our in depth knowledge and pioneering approach, as well as the quality and detail of our work has driven the demand for our services and has given us access to some of the most exclusive design environments in which to work.

What keynote changes in the design world have you seen of late?
We work in a very exciting business that is constantly evolving due to changes in lifestyle, developments in technology, new building materials and trends in both design and fashion. It's important to us that our clients are confident and reassured we understand their individual needs and aspirations and that we make allowances for the constant demands on their time and the pressures of their modern day lifestyle.

Is 2017 setting up to be a seminal year for CID?
It certainly is. 190 Strand is due for completion and we are working on some truly outstanding luxury, private residences in the Middle East, London and Asia as well as a boutique hotel in London.  We have also been commissioned to design a luxury shopping centre in Cairo and a pleasure boat on the Nile.

In addition to the variety of design projects we are undertaking both here and abroad, we are developing our own range of bespoke furniture which we aim to launch in 2017 and which we intend to ship anywhere in the world – this will allow our clients to buy bespoke pieces and to commission furniture in exclusive finishes and materials that have hitherto been unavailable. This new exclusive service will enable us to consolidate and improve our turnkey offer and provide one –off interior concepts that are truly individual.
