Set in 550 acres of Sussex downland on the south coast, just ten miles from the vibrant city of Brighton and Hove, the school shares rapid connections with London. The College offers consistently outstanding academic achievement, first-class pastoral care and a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom. Its safe and happy school community provides the perfect environment for girls and boys to develop at their own pace. We believe our young people should be inspired and be brilliant, but most of all, be themselves.
With some 600 pupils, our vibrant school offers plenty of opportunity for fun and friendship, alongside a strong sense of community where everyone has their place and is well known.
Academic rigour is at the heart of a Lancing education; inspirational teaching in an inspirational setting enriches every pupil. We offer academic excellence for every pupil; this approach means that we take time to value each individual and to give them space to grow, supported and encouraged as they develop.
In addition to exciting opportunities to participate in music, sport and drama, our expansive co-curricular programme offers over 120 different clubs and activities to challenge the mind and body. Pupils can participate in numerous societies and activities such as debating, writing for the school online journal, hearing from eminent and exciting visiting speakers and joining in the Combined Cadet Force or Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme.
Our ten Houses are where firm friendships are forged, lasting throughout school and beyond. It is in Houses that pupils are given leadership roles, learn a keen sense of community and develop skills of caring and sharing. The older pupils mentor those younger, whilst Heads of House and House Captains help in the day-to-day running of the House. There are ample opportunities to represent the House in music, sport and drama competitions.
Pastoral care is taken very seriously at Lancing: Housemasters and Housemistresses, House Matrons and
Tutors, Health Centre staff, school doctors, school counsellors and, of course, the Chaplain, all provide support for pupils. Housemasters and Housemistresses play a vital role in making the Houses homely, working with their supporting teams; in these primarily pastoral roles, they quickly get to know every pupil in their care and are the main point of contact for parents.
