Designing Fitness

02.06.19

Fusing industry-leading functionality with stunning design, WaterRower | NOHrD is redefining fitness equipment. Made by hand to exacting standards, pieces in the range are found in luxury homes and hotels across the globe. From the pioneering WaterRower, a wooden framed rowing machine that uses water for resistance, to the beautifully curved silhouette of the NOHrD Bike, the brand is recognised as one of the most innovative players in the fitness sector.

While other fitness equipment manufacturers base their designs on conventional shapes and styles to suit the commercial gym market, WaterRower | NOHrD does things differently. The design process works backward from defining the ideal user experience to creating a product to match.  This is an exacting process overseen by CEO and lead designer Dominik Kuprecht.

“The needs of the customer are at the heart of everything we do. When developing a product, our priority is always to deliver a machine that gives the user a best in class workout experience,” explains Dominik. “We spent over six years working on the design for the NOHrD Bike, refining every element to create something that I believe is in advance of all other indoor cycles”.

An antidote to disposable manufacturing, sustainability is at the heart of the company’s philosophy.  Production is split between Germany and the USA, running 100% on renewable energy coming from solar panels at the two facilities. All the beautiful hardwoods that are used come from verified sustainable sources, where the planting rates must exceed harvest rates by a multiple of 2.2 or higher.

The genius behind the company is its simplicity. Fitness is an experience that should be enjoyed and to this end, the environment in which you exercise should be a pleasurable place to be. WaterRower | NOHrD enable this by offering good-looking, high-quality fitness equipment that doesn’t need to be hidden away and can sit pride of place in any room. All too often people relegate their gym equipment to collect dust in the dark corner of a basement, making them far less likely to use it.

Exercise equipment that you are actually going to use, there’s a thought!
