Hong Kong buyers are investing in apartments at Coda in Battersea reveal developer Avanton, who have seen a significant spike in deals and enquiries from Hong Kong nationals since the Chinese Parliament announced plans to approve the Hong Kong Security Law.
Since the COVID-19 ‘lockdown’ on the 23rd of March 2020, Avanton have secured 35 deals at Coda making it the most best-selling scheme in South West London this year. Of the 35 deals, 30% of have come from overseas buyers with the remaining 70% domestic purchasers. Of that 30% the majority of the sales are now from Hong Kong buyers with enquiry levels continuing to rise.
In recent days, Avanton secured deals on four apartments purchased by two different Hong Kong buyers. The buyers purchased two apartments respectively, one for themselves and the other for either their children or their parents. Avanton reveal that the buyers stated that they were using the apartments as ‘safe havens’ for themselves and their families in case the situation in Hong Kong worsens. They also noted that the British Government’s visa announcement for Hong Kong buyers had offered them a sense of security in purchasing London property.
David Ronson, Director of Sales and Marketing at Avanton commented: “In recent weeks we have seen an influx of enquiries and sales interest from Hong Kong nationals. The UK Government’s announcement on visa changes, which could enable up to three million Hong Kong nationals to apply for UK citizenship, has made London property an appealing investment for Hong Kong based buyers. Coda’s popularity since the COVID-19 lockdown has owed to open-plan, flexible living spaces, outdoor terraces and balconies in every apartment and the development’s location close to Battersea Park and the River Thames.”
The apartments at Coda sit above a raised ground floor podium containing the RAD facilities, with the podium roof providing two courtyard gardens totalling 18,600 sqft of outside space. The 23 storey, 90 metres tall, central residential tower provides private sale studio, one, two, and three bedroom apartments and penthouses. Every home has a private balcony or terrace with substantial use of glazing to maximise natural light and the scheme’s outstanding views from the upper floors.
The marketing suite and show apartment at Coda has now reopened adhering to COVID-19 safeguarding. Under new safeguarding procedures buyers will be encouraged to contact Avanton and schedule an appointment to visit the marketing suite. As per the new guidelines, appointments will also be focused around off-peak commuter travel times and a minimal number of people attending the visits to assist with social distancing.
