Despite the Covid-19 pandemic still in play, there is no doubt that life is moving into a new norm, and understandably the senior living community may be concerned about whether now is a safe time to be moving home or not. Sequoia Life have been closely monitoring the situation and with the warmer weather on its way, a successful vaccination rollout in play, various safety measures in place and with Covid-19 seemingly under control, we believe now could be the perfect time to be downsizing to a boutique development designed for the over 55’s only.

Here are a few ways Sequoia Life will be keeping their residents ‘safe and social’ at our latest developments: Aspen Mews and Mansell Vale…

Covid-19 vaccinations

As our homes are for the over 55’s only, all residents will have had their second vaccinations, and will continue to be within the priority age group once these need to be topped up by a booster jab.

You won’t be lonely at Aspen Mews

Life shouldn’t stop because of a pandemic. Many people have never felt so alone like they have over the last year, stuck at home and not able to visit a local shop or hug a family member. We’ve made sure our residents can be socially interactive at all of our developments, whether that’s in our tranquil private woods, stunning rooftop terraces, communal lounges or internal courtyards. Should we ever have to enter another lockdown, we will also help residents find fun ways to socialise with their neighbours whilst being apart. Ideas we have already come up with include balcony birthdays, a weekly residents’ virtual zoom quiz or even ‘Pimms O Clock’ out on the balconies enjoying the sunset!

Sequoia Life will also be introducing various activities for residents to enjoy together (in small gatherings to start off with), from wine tasting and yoga to mindfulness and meditation. (Covid-19 allowing of course).

Wellness on-site

Health and wellbeing is fundamental to our overall mental and physical health – particularly true for latter years – and this couldn’t be more important than it is today. Exercise, socialising, taking time to enjoy what we love to do are all on offer at our developments, and being boutique, this private access reduces the risk of community exposure. For example, there are just 25 apartments at Aspen Mews, Chigwell and 52 at Mansell Vale, Wantage. Our rooftop terraces and private woodland alongside our planned mindfulness and meditation classes will all help residents to relax and unwind, whilst our lifestyle concierges can arrange a range of health and wellbeing activities at local golf clubs, gyms and spas – who are also doing everything they can to train staff re their Covid-19 policies to ensure safety for all.

High-spec technology

Not everybody has access to super-fast broadband at home, but we have ensured all of our residents have access to such technology – ideal for family quizzes over Skype or Zoom, or keeping up to date with family and friends, especially when travel restrictions are in place.

Basic necessities can be handled on-site

Some of our residents may not wish to travel into supermarkets yet, visit their local post office or don’t wish to be up at the crack of dawn shopping during ‘senior hour’. Our on-site lifestyle concierge therefore comes in very handy, who can arrange anything you wish such as the delivery of groceries, parcels and medicines directly to your door, as well as organising your apartment or laundry to be cleaned. No need to pick up parcels either, as all of our developments have a designated parcel store on-site adding extra security as well as minimising exposure.

Our Covid-19 measures 

Sequoia Life has ensured all the communal areas have hand sanitizers, with door handles and hallways cleaned regularly. We also offer contact tracing for residents, staff and visitors, have our staff members tested once a week and can arrange for residents to participate in regular on-site Covid-19 testing should they wish to. We will also be arranging classes to be in small groups at first, with adequate social distancing in all communal areas indoors. We are also ensuring safe move-in protocols to protect all residents when others are moving in, residents will wear masks when outside of their apartments and staff members will wear masks and gloves where appropriate. If there was to be a breakout in any of schemes, we will stop anybody moving in until they test negative.
