Greta Garbo’s former Beverly Hills home is back on the market, and in addition to being up for sale, it’s also available to rent.
The Southern California home is now listed for about $7.2 million, notably less than its initial asking price of $12 million in June 2022, when a different brokerage was marketing the house. As the sellers have since moved out, they’re eager to offload the property, said listing agent Susan Smith of Carolwood Estates.
The fully furnished home is also available to rent at $45,000 a month. As a result of the brutal wildfires that have destroyed more than 12,000 structures in the Los Angeles area, real estate agents have been inundated with requests to find leases, so offering the home as a rental was an appealing alternative for the Garbo estate’s owners.
Indeed, the home comes with six bedrooms, which Smith said is “unusual” for hillside properties, and there is a primary suite on both floors.
When the home was built in 1937, and when Garbo lived there, it was only one storey. Just before the current owners bought the home, an expansion by interior designer Nicole Sassaman added a second floor, increasing the size of the home to 4,700 square feet. A fresh coat of white paint on the exterior has given the home a more contemporary look, despite being nearly 90 years old.
Perched in the hills of the exclusive Beverly Crest neighborhood, the property takes full advantage of its third of an acre of space. A pool and hot tub sit above a grassy lawn, which then, via a staircase, leads down to a deck, which has a barbecue and a bar and is shielded by surrounding trees.
