London’s most exciting new residential address is now complete: The Stage in Shoreditch is the £750 million transformation of William Shakespeare’s original Curtain Theatre into a new destination to live, work and play. Working with joint venture partners Cain International, McCourt Partners, Vanke and The Estate Office Shoreditch, the 2.3-acre site is now reborn for the 21^st century, with the residential tower alongside two sleek office blocks providing 257,000 square foot of blue-chip commercial space, 60,000 square foot of extensive retail and restaurant space, and a performing arts pavilion. The preserved archaeological ruins will form part of the new Museum of Shakespeare, set to open in 2024, making this a revived cultural destination for East London.

Working alongside Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA), Historic England and panel of Shakespearean academics, the new Museum of Shakespeare will use new AI-technology to bring the theatre to life. Plays once performed here included the debut of Shakespeare’s Henry V alongside Romeo and Juliet. The Curtain Theatre was the main venue for Shakespeare and his company, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, around 1597-99 before The Globe was built.
