Originally listed in 2016, Fashion designer Tom Ford has reportedly found a buyer for his New Mexico Ranch. The internationally acclaimed designer bought the estate, known as Carro Pelon, 20 years ago. The estate includes a main house and equestrian facility designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tandao Ando. Ando chose to feature the design as the cover for his book Completed Works 1975-2012. In keeping with his other designs, Carro Pelon’s main house is a study in concrete with an expansive wall of windows. The property is set low to the earth with a wide walkway across a large reflective pool. The wall of windows in the common living areas face out onto the reflective pool designed to feature and utilise natural light. The design also uses natural materials with clean lined covered walkways of stone and woods. In 2009, Ford said he enjoyed being able to escape to the ranch and that it helped him to appreciate the present. The estate spans over 20,000 acre and includes an Old West style movie town that was built in 1985. The set was originally built for the film ‘Silverado’, however it has also been used as a location in other screen epics such as ‘Wyatt Earp’ and ‘Thor’. The ranch also boasts other additional features such as its own tennis courts, staff quarters, numerous guest houses and its own landing strip. In 2016 Ford listed the ranch for $75 million. After some time on the market however, the price was substantially dropped to $48 million. The deal for the property was announced on an Instagram post by Clayton Orrigo from New York real estate agency Compass, who said he represented the buyer alongside local agent Neil Lyon of Sotheby’s International Realty. “It has been an honour to work on this for the past 4 months, and I’m thrilled for the new owners who have showed me first=hand what it’s like to dream bigger”, Mr. Orrigo wrote. However, there has been no confirmation on who the new owners are as in New Mexico, property sales are not part of the public record.
