Mayfair Georgian Townhouse: A rare find

A Rare Find

05.08.19

An original Georgian townhouse, one of the oldest surviving in Mayfair, has been launched to the market offering buyers glamorous interiors behind a period façade. Originally built in 1729 and now Grade II listed, the townhouse at 78 Park Street showcases contemporary interior design in a highly sought-after location, available to purchase through joint sole agents Wetherell and Savills.

Very few Georgian townhouses remain in Mayfair with the terrace of townhouses at 70-78 Park Street the only surviving original homes on the street, and some of the oldest townhouses in London. 78 Park Street was constructed by bricklayer John Barnes and boasts traditional frontage of brown brick with red brick window dressings, with sash windows and cast iron balconettes.

Behind this period frontage, the property offers sumptuous furnishings and contemporary interior design, with some original coving details carefully preserved. The four-bedroom property is set over five levels, providing 2,648 square feet of newly refurbished living space and has been finished to a high standard throughout.

Located on the ground floor, a smart entrance hallway featuring original coving details leads to a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining room. The galley kitchen has sleek, fitted handle-less cupboards with fully integrated appliances in a warm charcoal shade, complemented by a white marble-effect splashback and surfaces. The dining room boasts plenty of natural light from the large sash windows, with the kitchen leading to a stylish conservatory dressed as a lounge area.

The property’s entire first floor is a capacious 470 square feet reception room, with three magnificent sash windows overlooking the street which feature decorative iron balustrades. The reception room boasts plush carpet in a cashmere hue, and a dining table with chairs of a rich velour offers flexible seating options.

The Principal suite occupies the second floor, providing a large bedroom with bespoke fitted wardrobes for ample storage, and an en suite bathroom with His and Hers sinks. On the property’s third floor, there are two guest bedrooms with a shared Jack and Jill en suite bathroom. Each bedroom has bespoke cupboards for storage.

The property’s lower ground floor offers a cosy entertainment room which leads to a Shisha room in a converted vault, complete with strip LED lighting for a chic vibe. There is a further guest bedroom with an en suite bathroom, and a utility room.

Charles Lloyd, Head of Office, Mayfair and St James’s for Savills commented: “It is rare for a newly refurbished freehold house of this size to come to the market in Mayfair and is the perfect turnkey solution for someone looking for a hassle free move.”

Peter Wetherell, Chief Executive of Wetherell commented: “Park Street boasts some of the oldest original Georgian properties on the street and in Mayfair, which are always highly sought-after for their beautiful period façades. 78 Park Street balances heritage with contemporary interiors and has been recently refurbished to a very high standard throughout. I expect this home to sell to a family who wish to benefit from a central London address whilst enjoying glamorous interior design.”

Park Street is ideally situated, a short walking stance from the green expanse of Hyde Park, with the underground station Marble Arch offering a Central line service to Bank in just ten minutes. Park Street is also just walking distance from Michel Roux Jr.’s famous restaurant Le Gavroche on Upper Brook Street, the UK’s first ever restaurant to be awarded two Michelin stars.

78 Park Street is for sale with joint sole agents Wetherell and Savills, with price on application. For further information, please contact Wetherell on T: 020 7529 5588 / www.wetherell.co.uk or Savills on 020 7472 5000 / www.savills.co.uk.
