Alberto Valenzuela’s bold and ambitious plan to build on the Pictet legacy in The Bahamas extends beyond increasing the Banks footprint in the financial services sector. Pictet Bank & Limited has always been keenly aware of its responsibility to give back to the community in which its employees live and raise their families and, as a consequence, has embraced the obligation to be a responsible corporate citizen. For more than 30 years, the Bank has provided financial assistance to numerous charities and causes related to cancer, HIV/AIDS, the elderly and orphaned children. Mr. Valenzuela has said, however, that not withstanding the Bank’s continued commitment to charity, it must adopt a more visionary approach to its involvement in The Bahamas by focusing on youth development and education and sustainability (which is a focal point for the entire Pictet Group) and which also has important ramifications for small island developing states such as The Bahamas.
Pictet Bank & Trust Limited recently sponsored the second annual Summer Arts Immersion programme, which was founded by renowned Bahamian Artist, Antonius Roberts as a launch pad for artistically inclined high school students to gain exposure to a number of disciplines, including the literary arts, fine arts and new media studies. Mr. Valenzuela hopes that the Bank will be able to display some of the work as part of its own collection so that visitors to its premises will be exposed to the depth of artistic talent currently being developed in the country.
Additionally, the Bank established a Staff Endowment Fund in order to provide assistance to children of its staff who excel in academics and athletics and are chosen to represent The Bahamas internationally. Accordingly to Mr. Valenzuela, “Pictet Bank & Trust Limited has been known for attracting and retaining highly qualified Bahamians who have contributed to the Bank’s success in The Bahamas. It is only natural, therefore, that we would want to recognise their efforts by helping to prepare the next generation of Bahamians to be able to perform in a rapidly changing world.”
