British design studio Waldo Works has unveiled bold and contemporary interiors for the largest penthouse apartment to complete at Television Centre – the reimagining of the former home of the BBC in the heart of White City.

Sitting over the top two floors of the historic grade-II listed Helios building, the flagship four-bedroom penthouse provides an expansive 4,068 sq ft of living accommodation, representing one of the largest residences to market in West London. There are four outdoor spaces, one west-facing terrace spans the entire length of the upper floor, whilst a 1,000 sq ft south-facing terrace provides far reaching views of the London skyline.

Recognised for its contemporary take on British design, Waldo Works’ interiors are a celebration of old meets new – an ode to Television Centre’s cultural heritage. The studio took a playful approach to the project, researching the graphic architecture of broadcasting towers, the curves of sound wave transmissions, and the pixelation of the early televisual imagery, applying them to layouts, patterns and textures throughout the apartment.

The entrance hall’s centrepiece, an imposing steel spiral staircase, sees a commissioned paper sculpture designed by Deepa Panchamia rising through it, announcing itself in waves. The living room further complements the staircase and the shape of the building with a bespoke circular sofa paired with an Annie Albers rug.

Equally inspired by the colours and structures of the time when the BBC centre was conceived – a post war, playful and upbeat type of modernism – the penthouse is artfully curated with furniture by Living Divani, Glas Italia, Felix McCormack, Herrenhuis, Cristian Zuzunaga alongside bespoke designs by Waldo Works themselves. Bold and playful, the studio chose textiles by Dedar, Christopher Farr, Shuttleworth and Clementine Oliver to work seamlessly with Alford Hall Monaghan Morris’s (AHMM) interior architecture.

Three further reception rooms on the upper floor lead off the marble-lined Italian cook’s kitchen – an internal garden/library space with modular pixel patterned seating leads to a blue timber and brass study, and on to a deeper blue herringbone lined media room. The lower floor sees a range of multiform bedrooms, each individual; from a bright, children-inspired bedroom, to a celadon silk-lined guest bedroom and master bedroom suite that explores the textures of the natural world with contrasting weaves and scales.

The pinnacle of luxury living, Waldo Works has consciously designed the space to embrace an indoor-outdoor living theme while ensuring the overall style complements RIBA Stirling Prize-winning AHMM’s architectural brilliance.

Tom Bartlett, founder of Waldo Works, comments: “The design of the penthouse at Television Centre was inspired by the incredible history of the site and the exciting exterior architecture by Graham Dawbarn of Norman & Dawbarn. It was an honour to be invited to work on such an iconic building and with partners who reflect our own ethos here at Waldo Works.”

Peter Allen, Residential Sales and Marketing Director at Stanhope, said: “The reimagining of Television Centre celebrates the very best of contemporary British design which is why approaching Waldo Works was a no-brainer. The realisation of the penthouse wasn’t the result of a pitch, but the acceptance of an invitation to set out what it means to live at the top of this truly iconic project.”

The penthouse is available for £7,600,000 (excluding furnishings and artwork), via the appointed sales agents.

Television Centre is the reimagining of the former home of the BBC in West London. The completed first phase comprises 432 new homes, headquarter offices for Publicis Group, The White Company and Soho Works, and White City House - an outpost of private members’ club Soho House, complete with Electric cinema and 45 room hotel. The legacy of the BBC continues at the site with BBC Studioworks operating three television studios.
