President Joe Biden was officially inaugurated as the 46^th president of the United States last week, bringing big political change in the States. With his new role as ‘leader of the free world’ both President Biden, along with his wife Jill Biden have moved into the one of the most iconic buildings in the world, The White House. Abode2 takes a behind-the-scenes tour of the properties the power couple call home.

The Biden’s primary residence is in leafy Greenville, Delaware. In the late 1990s Biden bought a four-acre lakefront property for $350,000 and went on to build a 6,850 square foot mansion on the land. The mansion is located just a five-minute drive from the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, where the family regularly attends services.

The house sports three bedrooms and four bathrooms and has an estimated value now of around $2 million.

After his time serving as Vice President, Joe Biden bought a second home on the Delaware Shore. This stunning property in Rehoboth Beach overlooks the Cape Henlopen State Park. Biden has said that both he and Jill had ‘dreamed of being able to buy a place at the beach – a home where we can bring the whole family.’

The spectacular home features six bedrooms and six bathrooms. It also boasts a fully functional chef’s kitchen as well as three indoor fireplaces and the large window, allowing natural light to highlight the hardwood floors. The three-storey home is ideal for the Bidens to entertain friends and family with an outdoor grilling station, large wraparound porches and an outdoor fireplace.

Much like President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris has also had to move for her new role in office. Previously Harris lived in Brentwood with her husband Doug Emhoff. The couple shares the four-bedroom property and was their main residency, although publicly Harris talks more of her other two homes, in San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Vice President Harris owns a 1,700 square foot two-bedroom condo in the Westlight complex in the West End of Washington. The complex features a building concierge, a green wall of living plants and a rooftop heated pool, Harris’s ultraluxe designed condo is valued at around $2 million.

Harris’s apartment in San Francisco is located in the sough-after SOMA neighbourhood. The 1,000 square foot loft-style apartment is only a miles’ walk from the San Francisco Superior Court House. This is where Harris served as California’s first Black district attorney. Harris bought the property in 2004 for a reported $489,000 and is now valued at around $890,000.
