The highly skilled team at Betts Interior offer a personal and private service with every last detail taken care of. Creating some of the UK’s most envious interiors, Abode2 catches up with Betts Interiors founder, Gareth Betts, to discover his secret to creating spectacular interior designs.

What originally inspired you to create Betts Interiors?

I previously worked for a very successful Interior Design firm but I decided to take the plunge and leave, to pursue making my own way in the world of design. It was ultimately to take control for myself, allowing me to make my own decisions that would benefit clients and their projects, by giving them my teams dedicated time. Delivering the client briefs successfully, is what I wanted to prioritise.

How important is it for you to build a relationship with your clients?

This is both my skill as well as my mantra for my company... ‘to know your client’. We get to know the customer in every professional way by listening to our clients to really understand their briefs. This allows us to design and deliver what is both required and desired, rather than dictating what we personally think they should have, when it isn’t what they want. We pride ourselves on working closely with our clients, so we can add our input in the correct way, to achieve the final scheme successfully.

With the growing popularity of ‘Smart Homes’ and technology in our homes, how easy is it to incorporate tech into elegant designs?

This is the future of design. If you do not consider technology, you will be left behind. I personally have a lot of involvement in creating the ‘smart’ aspects for our projects and consult with recognised professionals who help us to deliver this at the highest standard. At Betts Interiors we are very technology orientated so we incorporate it in many ways, including; blinds and curtains, heating controls, lighting, audio and visual, as well as security and alarm systems. I must stress that if you overcomplicate this element of the design, it will fail. There is a fine balance when introducing technology.

You have designed rooms for all different purposes, from dressing rooms to cinema rooms. Is there a certain room you enjoy designing?

I wouldn’t say I have a favourite room to design as such, however I like to create rooms where there is a high level of design process required, or spaces that customers have a particular attachment to. Specifically where they seem to spend most of their time in to relax and unwind, or where the room could have a positive influence on their emotions. In particular, rooms such as; Snugs, Downstairs Toilets, En-suites, Master Bedrooms or Walk-in Wardrobes, TV or Cinema Rooms or even Games rooms because of the entertainment value that they bring.
