A picturesque fishing village since the early fourteenth century, Port Isaac is best known for its narrow, winding streets, lined with white-washed cottages and traditional granite, slate-fronted Cornish houses, many of which are listed as having architectural or historic importance. Right up until the middle of the 19th Century, Port Isaac was a busy port handling various imports and exports, including coal, timber, pottery and Delabole slate. After the advent of the railways, it became principally a fishing port, and unsurprisingly, the village is now known for its seafood, with renowned chef Nathan Outlaw owning two restaurants here; Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen by the harbour and the two Michelin star Restaurant Nathan Outlaw at the top, both serving responsibly sourced locally landed seafood.
This quintessential Cornish fishing village has a wealth of utterly charming traditional cottages in all shapes and sizes, providing an excellent opportunity to purchase at all levels. In recent years the hit TV series Doc Martin and Poldark have added a sprinkling of stardust, drawing visitors to this locale from far and wide. Older, characterful properties dominate in the lower conservation area of the village giving easy access to the harbour and shops. At the top of the village, larger properties enjoy views over the harbour and become more contemporary in style.
