When we dream of fleeing the cold and dark of the Northern European winter, most of us picture white sandy beaches and charming little restaurants. But while food and relaxation are great, after a few (fantastic) lazy days at the beach most of us will find ourselves looking around and thinking: what else is there to do around here?

Ambera’s living concept is based on affordable homes, extensive shared facilities, community spirit, and an active lifestyle. We build strong, friendly communities by helping our residents organise groups and activities based on their individual interests.

Whether you’re a jazz pianist looking for a band, or an amateur writer looking for other authors, it should be easy to pursue your passions and meet people who share your interests. In reality it turns out to be hard, because that’s not how life is organised in today’s society. At Ambera, you can simply talk to one of our on-site Lifestyle Directors, who will help you find existing clubs or set up a new club, book an appropriate space for your activity, and invite people to join you. You can also use the Ambera Life App to browse and join groups and events created by others.

Why are we so concerned about creating warm and inclusive communities at Ambera? Because we have found that Europe lacks communities that are built around social inclusion. We Europeans believe that socialising should and will happen by itself, but actually around 50% of all people approaching retirement struggle with some sort of social isolation or inactivity – however much or little. Research has shown that this is bad for our mental health, can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and other physical ailments.

So, when we know that meeting through activities can make our lives better, why wouldn’t we focus on it? At Ambera, golf tournaments, book clubs, Spanish classes, and hikes are not only fun – they are also great opportunities to meet new people. Maybe you’ll just meet someone for tennis once a week, or maybe you’ll start a friendship that will last for a lifetime. One thing that’s for certain is that by choosing to attend the activities you are interested in, you are choosing to meet people who share your interests. You are choosing your future, one day at a time.
