Glamorous Home of Glamorous Legend

27.01.21

Joan Collins, the legendary British actress and star of the long-running ABC-hit Dynasty, has just put her Manhattan home up for sale for almost $2.1 million.

Joan made her debut as a child actor, while her father was a talent agent managing such stars as Tom Jones and the Beatles. Her sister, Jackie Collins, was equally well known for her New York Times best-selling-racy novels that sold over 500 million copies. Several of Jackie’s books were made into films including The Stud, which starred Joan in the lead role, and made over $20 million.

Joan attended the London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts at the age of 16, where she began her formal training, preparing her technically for the varied roles she would play in her future. Cast in many leading roles across both film and television, Joan became a U.S household name for her role as Alexis Colby in the long running soap opera Dynasty. The show was the No. 1 rated television show in the U.S. in 1985 and ran for 9 years. Collins was often referred to as one of the most beautiful women in the world due to her sultry, dark beauty whilst portraying the bad-girl protagonist. Joan received the title of Dame for her charitable work in 2015.

Being a well know name and working across the world means that Collins has owned property across the globe. Last year she made reference to her retail estate holdings, revealing that she “liked to work,… how else would she support four homes’. However, in 2017 she sold her Hollywood home and has now placed her New York apartment on the market. Collins has been mainly living in her home in London and summers at her property in Saint-Tropez in the South of France and spends time on her yacht in the harbour below.

The New York apartment is a combination of three units in the Dorchester in Midtown Manhattan. The white glove co-op is a few blocks from Central Park, fine dining restaurants and luxury, high-end shops. Collins purchased the property with her fifth husband, film-producer Percy Gibson, when they first married in 2002. The couple have put the apartment up for sale a couple of times before, receiving offers and then removing it from the market, thinking they may spend more time in New York in the future. As they have not been using the property as they thought they might, they have decided to remarket the property.

The property is open and airy and catches lots of natural light with its many windows. With three exposures and an expansive living room/dining room, this bright and airy apartment is well-suited for easy entertaining, working from home or comfortable city living. The most desirable of the building's combined layouts, this home also features a flexible layout with two master suites in separate wings, an additional guest bedroom or office and three bathrooms. Joan favourite feature of the apartment is said to be the 16 wardrobes across the property.

Priced at $2.095 million, Joan’s condo is listed by Carolyn Weiner-Trapness, Brown Harris Stevens’ Broadway office, New York City.
