This gargantuan brick Arts and Crafts house selling in Surrey, England, will “rock you.”

Milhanger Cottage, located in the village of Thursley, was the long-time home of Queen drummer and songwriter Roger Taylor. The estate, which includes a stately seven-bedroom main house and an array of useful outbuildings set across 70 acres, came back on the market this month for £6 million (US$7.775 million), according to listing records on Zoopla.

Mr. Taylor, 70, who played alongside the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury and penned some of the rock band’s major hits, including “Under Pressure” and “These Are the Days of Our Lives,” lived in the house for nearly a quarter-century, from 1979 to 2003, according to the agency Savills, which listed the home on Friday.

“This is the former home of a legendary musician,” said property agent Alastair Mercer in the listing. “It is once again drumming up interest to those looking for a large country home.”

A 2,300-square-foot party barn is among the vestiges of the rocker’s time there. The detached building was formerly a recording studio and today could serve as an entertainment space, gallery or additional storage, according to the listing.

But the amenity-packed main house has no shortage of space. In 1907, leading British architect Harold Falkner built the elaborate brick mansion, which was later extended to encompass a leisure center that brings the home to a whopping 17,755 square feet.

The first level offers a large family kitchen off the main entrance that opens to a sweeping conservatory overlooking the grounds.

An original grand oak staircase ascends to the second level, where there are six bedrooms and a games room, which leads to a large library or entertainment hall. A spiral staircase from the grand room connects to the leisure center, where there’s a pool and gym, according to a floor plan for the home.

There’s also a spacious master suite that occupies the top floor and a self-contained staff annex with two bedrooms on the ground level.

Among the collection of outbuildings is a Grade II-listed building known as Cosford Mill, a nearly 450-year-old water mill that could serve as a guest cottage. The historic building, extended over the centuries, now encompasses four bedrooms, a kitchen and a collection of reception rooms.

The rockin’ country estate hasn’t been off the market for long. The seller, a Qatari business executive, purchased the estate for around £6 million in the spring of 2018, according to property records. The seller could not be reached for comment.

Though the home needs a bit of updating, according to the property agents, “Milhanger is ideal for entertaining on a grand scale but equally suited to more relaxed family living.”
